Sample information

Conclusion: In conclusion, loss of nuclear p16 protein expression was associated with aggressive endometrial carcinomas and high proliferative activity (Ki-67) and was found to represent a strong and independent prognostic indicator. Methylation of the promoter region seems to be an uncommon mechanism of p16 inactivation in endometrial carcinoma.

Funtion Uniprot: Acts as a negative regulator of the proliferation of normal cells by interacting strongly with CDK4 and CDK6. This inhibits their ability to interact with cyclins D and to phosphorylate the retinoblastoma protein.
