Sample information

Conclusion: This study suggests, supported by both preclinical and clinical data, that stathmin could be a predictive biomarker for response to paclitaxel treatment in endometrial cancer. Re-assessment of stathmin level in metastatic lesions prior to treatment start may be relevant. Also, validation in a randomized clinical trial will be important.

Sample type : tissue

Sample method: immunohistochemistry and western blot

Expression pattern : expression( score 9)

Expression elevation: A semiquantitative grading system incorporating staining intensity (score 0–3) and area of tumor with positive staining (0, no staining;1, <10%; 2, 10%–50%; and 3, >50% of tumor cells) was applied. Staining index was calculated as the product of staining intensity and staining area, range 0–9.High protein level was defined as the upper quartile, score 9.

Funtion Uniprot: Involved in the regulation of the microtubule (MT) filament system by destabilizing microtubules. Prevents assembly and promotes disassembly of microtubules. Phosphorylation at Ser-16 may be required for axon formation during neurogenesis. Involved in the control of the learned and innate fear (By similarity).

Molecular function from UniProt:

Tissue specificity from UniProt: Ubiquitous. Expression is strongest in fetal and adult brain, spinal cord, and cerebellum, followed by thymus, bone marrow, testis, and fetal liver. Expression is intermediate in colon, ovary, placenta, uterus, and trachea, and is readily detected at substantially lower levels in all other tissues examined. Lowest expression is found in adult liver. Present in much greater abundance in cells from patients with acute leukemia of different subtypes than in normal peripheral blood lymphocytes, non-leukemic proliferating lymphoid cells, bone marrow cells, or cells from patients with chronic lymphoid or myeloid leukemia.
