The inclusion criteria at baseline were age at surgery <75 yr, PSA <20 ng/ml, clinical tumour stage <T4, and no clinical signs of distant metastasis.

A higher degree of NS significantly increased the risk of PSM but did not significantly increase the risk of cancer recurrence. Combined with the known functiol benefits of NS surgery, these results underscore the need to identify an individualised balance.
