Groups information

Group name

US-guided PFMT

Groups definition

perioperative pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT)

Groups remarks

A team composed of a physiotherapist and a nurse provided the following PFMT regimen at least three times (T1 before RARP; T2 immediately after urethral catheter removal ie about 7 days after RARP; T3 1 month after RARP; Figure 2). The team also provided the patient with a discussion on the anatomy of the pelvic floor and continence mechanism using a leaflet followed by an individually PFMT augmented with US-guided biofeedback and instruction about home PFMT at T1. The physiotherapist visited the bedside of the patient in the ward and provided a 15-min verbal instruction of PFMT at T2. The team provided PFMT with US-guided biofeedback again at T3. The team also confirmed symptoms and severity of UI and gave instructions about the management of UI. When a patient had severe UI he received one or two times more US-guided PFMT after 1 month until he had a confidence to contract PFM enough to prevent UI.
